Observing My Work Life Balancing Act On A Saturday
At 10: 05 – turned on my computer. The most compelling thing was checking traffic and subscribers from yesterday. This diverted me from my intention to be highly productive.
10:13 – made a laundry list of to-do’s
10:31 – did one task among the to-dos, without regard to priorities–need to re-align to mark down priorities #1-6
10:34 – it is hard to limit priorities to 6, so I turned two small things into parts a and b. Now I’ve got 6 goals for today.
10:36 – getting started on Goal #1
10:49 – interrupted for 24 minutes to bring youngest child to baseball, then returned back to work
12:32 – interrupted for 18 minutes to pick up youngest child from baseball
12:50 – back to work focus on Goal #1
3:11 – finished Goal #1
3:12 – took a shower, got dressed, made myself lunch and ate it
3:42 – collected phone numbers to move on to Goal #2, to do in the barber shop after I drive oldest child to hair cut
4:59 – returned from hair cut with Goal #2 done
5:46 – caught myself having lost 45 minutes in online rabbit hole; re-focused to priorities. Start work toward Goal #3.
5:47 – husband reminds me that I have to take middle child to barbeque, interrupting work
6:08 – back to desk, continuing with Goal #3
6:68 – decide to call it a day, feeling GREAT with 2 goals accomplished, including the “Thing I Most Hated and Wished to Avoid” (Goal #1) and the “Thing That Will Most Dramatically Boost My Personal Brand” (Goal #2), and progress towards Goal #3
